India produces more than 8 lakh engineering graduates per annum. The National Institutes of Technology (NITs) are considered as a premier engineering institutes in India, which have more than 18,000 intake capacity for various under graduate programmes (BTech). These are governed by the National Institutes of Technology Act, 2007, which declared them as institutions of national importance alongside Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs).
The NIT admission process is rigorous as it strives to offer seats to candidates who have a good technical aptitude. Screening of candidates for undergraduate programmes is done basis the national level engineering entrance exam - JEE Main every year. Candidates who qualify in JEE Main appear for centralised counselling where they opt for B.Tech specialisations and best engineering courses of their choice.
